Entry 39: Chillin’ with Mac & Jack

Location: Redmond, WA

Brewery: Mac and Jacks

Reason: Right next to Postdoc

After a wonderful visit to Postdoc, we hit up an old faithful of Washington craft.  Mac and Jacks.  Everyone knows and has had Mac & Jacks.  Almost every bar has one of their beers on tap.  And there is a good reason, its a quality, consistent beer.

Moreover, since every has had their beer, is there a real reason to review it? Not really.  Why did we stop there? Cause it is part of the journey!  Why am I asking so many questions? Why not.

The brewery itself isn’t very exciting unless you do the tour.  And if you haven’t done a brewery tour before, this is a good one to start with.  They are every Saturday and Sunday at 1 and 3.  Give it a shot.  If you go to the brewery for beer, well, better bring a growler with you since they do not serve pints.

Mac & Jacks is a staple of Washington beers.  And if you go there, say hi to my buddy Pat.

Entry 38: Studying the Postdoc

Location: Redmond, WA

Brewery: Postdoc

Reason: Super Hot Day

On one of the freakishly hot days this past summer, Matt and I decided to try and beat the heat the only way that we know how, by visiting a couple of breweries. We loaded up in the fiat and and drove our air conditioning machine all the way to Redmond to visit one of my new favorite places, Postdoc.

Matt and I actually had the pleasure of visiting Postdoc on their opening weekend back in Febuary. Right off the bat Postdoc has been a brewery that has its shit together. Located in Redmond near Marymore park, close to Mac & Jacks, Postdoc has a great taproom with lots of comfortable seating and and big wood tables. The atmosphere is cozy but still modern and definatly warm and inviting. They have plenty of board games on hand and I could easily see spending the better part of an afternoon hanging out there with friends playing games and trying new beers; especially their beers.

Postdoc has quickly made a name for themselves in the beer community, the Alpha Factor IPA becoming a regular on local taps (and in my pint glass). Another highlight from Postdoc would be the grapefruit kolsch, an incredibly refreshing beer on a hot day. Matt liked the Easy A Session IPA and the Prereq Pale Ale. I would also like to give honerable mention to the Kitty MacSporran Scottish Ale (feel free to follow us on untapped: samami and husky13836).

We were looking for a place to escape the heat and get out of the house for a few hours and were comfortable hanging out at Postdoc for a while. Being a little bit nerdy ourselves, Matt and I appreciate the mix of academia and beer. Postdoc doesnt seem to be showing any signs of slowing down, I expect to see more and more of them in the next few years. I would make a point of visiting this taproom if you havent been yet, and if you have, I would make a point of going back.
