Location: Westport, WA
Brewery: Blackbeard Brewing
Reason: HOLY CRAP! Was that a brewery we just passed?
Once and a while you have to fight for justice. And when you encounter an evil pirate such as Blackbeard, it is going to be an epic fight. Blackbeard is a legend for the ages. A man who roamed and pillage the seas in the 17th and 18th centuries, Blackbeard was a pirate not to be messed with. But here we were, Samwise and I, taking on Blackbeard. And damnit, we were going to win. (For more information on Blackbeard, go here, he is an interesting historical character).
Fun part about Blackbeard brewing is that Sam and I were looking for a place to eat around Westport. The place we wanted to go closed early so we had to turn around and drive back into the main part of town. As we did, off to my left I glimpsed a small sign that said “Brewery”. I slam on my breaks to Sam’s bewilderment and turn into the brewery. Once we get in there, it is a cracking and hoppin’ place. We come to find out that it was Blackbeards opening weekend. They only had 1 of their beers on tap, the IPA, which was very good. They also had several guest beers on tap too, including Schooner Exact. From what I learned about Westport is that things close early there, but Blackbeards is open late and the locals seem to love it.
I’d like to try it again, once they have more beers. But if you want something to do in Westport, I suggest going to the beach during the morning, head to Westport Brewing in the evening, go get dinner and then finish the night at Blackbeard. It’ll be a fun night.
